Samsung's New Generation Exhibition AMOLED Screen

SEOUL - Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) will be exhibiting the latest generation of AMOLED display, scheduled to be displayed at the exhibition Electrincs Consumer Show 2011 in Las Vegas.

Later, in the largest electronics exhibition, the SMD will offer a first look at the latest generation AMOLED prototype 4.5-inch WVGA claimed a flexible view of the most advanced in the world.

Quoted Tech Eye, Monday (03/01/2011), this new AMOLED will offer distinct advantages over LCD and plasma screens mostly, like the colors more vibrant, high contrast and lower power consumption.

4.5-inch AMOLED screen inil has a thickness of only 2mm, running at 800x480 resolution WVGA and can be extended to a radius of one centimeter. It is said that in the WVGA, prototype new concept offers a screen resolution four times that of the previous AMOLED prototype.

According to Samsung, this is thanks to the use of new plastic substrate that can withstand the temperature of 450-500 degrees is required in the manufacturing process.

In the previous generation AMOLED technology plastic substrate necessary for the production will melt at a temperature over 400 degrees during the manufacturing process which has made large-scale production difficult.

With the new production methods have been developed, the prototype is apparently a big step towards mass production and commercialization of the screen-AMOLED.

SMD also will make its debut 19-inch AMOLED QFHD Transparent designed to be used in monitors for PCs and TVs.
